What Do I Do?
I specialize in technology. Although my primary expertise is in computer software, I have extensive experience in hardware, systems, wireless, and many related fields. More importantly, my skill set includes the things that you need to make your product or project more successful.
What Makes Me Better Than The Next Guy?
IT workers are easy to find. Like in any other field, though, good IT workers are hard to find. Here are some of my practices that separate me from the rest of the pack:
- Business Drivers. I understand that at the end of the day, you have to make the bottom line. Sometimes the best solution isn't the right solution. Also, a vision of the future now helps save on costs down the road.
- Architecture. There is a right way to design something and a wrong way to design it. Knowing how to design it right doesn't take more time or cost more money -- it takes having an expert to make the correct decision when it comes time. I am that expert.
- People Skills. You can outsource code development, manufacturing and even project management. You still need someone to talk to executives and customers. I can explain complicated technical concepts in simple laymans' terms. Part of the reason for this is because I understand what it is that the listener wants to learn; to tell them more is a waste. The other part comes from understanding of the fundementals and the creativity to apply them to the task at hand.
- Full-spectrum Understanding. Knowing how to perform a task is not enough to make technology work. I understand how devices work on many levels, from transistors in a microprocessor to late binding libraries. When something goes wrong, I know how and where to look to fix it.
Where Did I Learn This?
The simple answer is this: hard-earned experience. A good, broad education made a lot of difference, and many of my life experiences have taught me to be a good leader and given me a well-rounded view of how things work.
My resume reflects a great deal of experience that I've had in technical positions. It doesn't show how I understand that a user interface can break a good product, or that some things should be logged with an audit trail while others shouldn't. The little things make a big difference, and I know this because I apply all my life lessons to my work.
What Are My Terms?
Most of my jobs are contract or short-term work. I am open to any reasonable opportunity, and I'd like to know how I can help you. I don't work for free and I don't take every job that's offered, but once I'm hired, I'm part of your team and committed to our deliverable.
The only way to know if my services are right for you is by contacting me and asking. I'm always intersted in hearing your need, and I'll try to help even if it means sending you somewhere else for the right solution.
Want To Know More?
For starters, you can download my resume in several different formats:
- Microsoft Word (will save as text, HTML, and other formats using Save As)
- Plain ASCII Text
- RTF (use this if you have an older version of Word or another similar word processing program)
Many people have asked me for a list of sites that I've worked on. I don't keep a complete list online because it's too long. For a partial list with some description, click here.
Finally, if you want my resume in another format, or if you want to know more about me, feel free to contact me. My web site and resume don't have full contact information, to preserve my privacy. If you're interested in hiring me, I have a full version of my resume that you can distribute.
